UNICEF – Jharkhand Project

The project is about community mobilization intervention to promote COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and sustain engagement of Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) and Urban Local Body (ULB) to enhance routine immunization services. The project was implemented in 3 tribal blocks Pirtand, Tisri, and Dumri and urban slums of Giridih district, Jharkhand, India.  


Key Achievements:

  1. 1346 PRI/ Ward members were oriented on COVID-19 vaccination, RI services, CAB and their role in strengthening health services in the villages and urban wards.
  2. 715 Number of Orientations of Village health sanitation and nutrition day committee (VHSNC) and Mahila Aarogya Samiti (MAS) groups which includes a total of 8,886 Members were oriented on COVID-19 vaccination, RI services, CAB and their roles.
  3. 2102 ANM, AWW, and Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) (Sahiya), received orientation related to COVID-19 vaccination, RI services, CAB and their roles.
  4. 210 Number of block and district level officials and facilitators of Jharkhand State livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) were oriented on COVID-19 vaccination, RI services, CAB.
  5. 18,336 SHG members have been oriented on COVID-19 vaccination, RI services, CAB, and their potential role in strengthening healthcare services.
  6. 1042 supportive supervision visits have been conducted with members of Panchayati Raj and Municipal corporation. Thus, the project team successfully engaged the elected officials in routinely monitoring healthcare service delivery within their constituency.
  7. 126,907 Number of beneficiaries were identified and counselled for COVID-19 vaccination
  8. 126,907 Number of vaccinations were supported by community volunteers
  9. 4063 Number of influencers (Councillors, teachers, Non-Governmental Organisations [NGO] representatives), MAS members, and Asha Anganwadi and ANM (AAA) teams oriented on co-vaccine.
  10. 18,336 Self Help Group (SHG) members were oriented on COVID-19 vaccine and CAB.
  11. 90,196 Number of the urban population covered through house-to-house interaction and were counselled to take COVID-19 vaccine by volunteers.
  12. 13,269 Number of handwashing demonstration were conducted by volunteers.

UNICEF – Rajasthan Project

The project is about strengthening maternal and newborn care services at facility and community level by using quality of care approach. The project is being implemented in Dungarpur and Barmer District of Rajasthan, India 


 

Key Achievements:

  1. Health facilities at Barmer and Dungarpur districts have been LaQshya Certified: 4 health facilities achieved LaQshya National Certification, 8 health facilities achieved LaQshya State Certification, and 19 health facilities achieved LaQshya District Certification
  2. 115 mentoring visits done to health facilities for LaQshya Certification
  3. 268 Facility staff members (all health staff of delivery points of Barmer and Dungarpur districts) were trained on National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS), LaQshya Quality parameters, and appreciative inquiry, latest labour room protocols, quality improvement processes and respectful maternity care (RMC).
  4. 157 Front Line Workers (FLWs), i.e., ANM and ASHAs have been trained on HBYC, KMC, and referral mechanisms

UNICEF – Uttar Pradesh Project

The project is about to Study urban infrastructure platforms for delivery of nutrition services with focus on Severe Acute malnutrition and demonstrate a doable model in Ghaziabad city. 

Key Achievements:

  1. Completed and shared report with UNICEF on current health and nutrition system existing within a typical urban area, especially Ghaziabad city.
  2. Mapped all key external stakeholders like NGO, CSO, private providers that can support urban nutrition strategy within the city
  3. Developed a Strategic Action Plan (SAP) document (model) for how Urban Nutrition can be strengthened in a typical urban city
  4. Implemented the SAP in two urban wards of Ghaziabad for pilot testing and learning.
  1. Trained all Anganwadi Workers-AWW (31 total) within the 2 wards
  2. 23 Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), 2 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs), 1 Child home and 1 external stakeholder were provided essential equipment for measing weight of child and adult, infantometer, and stadiometer to help identification of malnourished children (weight per age; or length/height per weight)
  3. Line listing of all children under the catchment areas of 34 AWCs, within the two intervention wards were done.
  4. A total of 4089 children have been screed. Out of this, 2548 children were below 6 years of age.
  5. Out of the total children screened, as per weight for height for under-5 children, 39 have been identified as Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) and 104 as Moderate Acute Malnourished (MAM).
  6. Out of the total children screened, as per weight for age for under-5 children, 48 children were identified as Severe Under Weight (SUW) and 123 as Moderate Under Weight (MUW).
  7. For the 39 children identified with SAM
  1. 24 have been provided appropriate treatment
  2. 5 children were referred to Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC)

UNICEF – Madhya Pradesh Project

The project is about facilitating capacity building of district mobilization network to build up of sustainable partnerships with NGOS under MAST (Madhya Pradesh Alliance for Social Transformation) platform and Community Radio’s in Madhya Pradesh state for promoting appropriate behaviour change in nutrition, education, water and sanitation (Jal Jeevan Mission) and health programs. 

 

Key Achievements:

  1. Stakeholders from line departments and other non-governmental organizations used SBCC lens in resumption of health, nutrition, education and other essential services with CAB+ adaptation and following all guidelines and protocols.
  2. Community Radios across the state participated in promoting positive behaviours among tribal areas and economically weaker areas.
  1. Mapping of the Community Radio’s across MP, including understanding their reach and based on that develop a strategy for their engagement. 
  2. Explore with thematic departments, namely health, nutrition, education and JJM with support of UNICEF; to develop a platform for engaging with them uniformly. 
  3. Make a monthly calendar for their support in different program and campaigns throughout the year. 
  4. Facilitating the capacity building of different community radios on various thematic components and flagship programs 
  1. MAST (Madhya Pradesh Alliance for Social Transformation) has been established as a vibrant and broad-based platform for SBC knowledge, skills and Practices in MP with wider membership.
